Midnight Banana

Oil on canvas

40 X 30

When I painted all the painting in this series, I was the banana tree.  My mother and dad had transplanted an old banana tree from Edgewater Park to their retirement home, and while visiting one day, I photographed it.  (The original source was located on the Edgewater grounds.)  It became my favorite symbol of our previous life together–our family before I married and left home.  The amazing thing to me is that I did not see it as “me” at the time.  It was pointed out to me when all of them were hanging together at my show.
