Roadside Thistle

Acrylic on canvas

10 X 10

While at Mississippi Art Colony, near Utica, MS, I spotted a pink thistle plant tangled among other weeds on the side of a narrow country road.  I wrapped it in a towel and forcibly pulled it out of the ground, so I would have it as a subject for paintings.  It was about 4 feet tall and had blooms at every stage of flowering.  It was kept in a bucket of water for days, and I took it home with me to use in additional drawings.  My friendly thistle lasted about 10 days, and many of the blooms turned to seed which I  scattered throughout our property.  I hope I don’t regret it.
