Tougaloo Landscape

Oil on paper

20 X 28

At the Tougaloo Art Colony one summer, Philadelphia artist Moe Brooker led a class on ABSTRACTION: What it is and what it is not.  Each chose a place to set up for drawing the landscape, followed by several steps, one of which was to tear the drawing into several pieces and reassemble into a composition which  could be drawn and painted.  I still have all the pieces, and it was quite an exercise.  This was the final painting which was completed in Jackson.  Later, the two smaller canvases, Visual Thinking and Visual Chaos were completed at home.  Moe is a great teacher.
